My Reactions To Gaddafi’s Death
In no particular order:
1) I don’t know that I can celebrate anyone’s death, including that of a cruel dictator like Gaddafi. In some ways, I take the events in Libya as a reminder that violence simply breeds more violence. I DO, however, stand in solidarity with those who have hope for a more peaceful future in Libya.
2) I don’t care what our politicians and media are feeding us out here in the United States… I’m not about to believe that the French and British (of course co-signed by the US) are getting all the credit for bringing an end to Gaddafi’s dictatorial rule. Get the facts straight… Don’t believe the #imperialist hype.
3) We’ve got a long road to travel from here… Yes, Gaddafi is now confirmed to be dead, but what’s next on this journey of twists and turns? Many of us know that systems of power and oppression are often internalized/institutionalized. How to we bring about systemic change to realize our visions for a more equitable status quo? How do we imagine outside of our given NATIONstate of mind? I still struggle to answer this question in the American context. Many prayers for peace to our global Libyan fam.
