Talkin Bout The Work Week
To be quite honest, it’s been a hard week.
Feels like I’ve been on a series of 10-12 hour work days, playing superwoman with my double life as artist/educator. During the day time, you can find me in overfilled classrooms and special education programs, trying my best to be a consistent mentor and ally for youth who truly need it. Sometimes, the best school supply a student can have...

For #OccupyWallStreet by Aisha
You see, for me /
Occupation is a symptom of society/
Now we have occupied the occupiers/

They take our land/
And chain our hands/

But me, I was born free /
Under the roots of the poet tree (poetry) /
And will not be executed quietly/
I’m all fired up /
But I flow like the sea/
(I ain’t...

My Reactions To Gaddafi's Death
In no particular order:
1) I don’t know that I can celebrate anyone’s death, including that of a cruel dictator like Gaddafi. In some ways, I take the events in Libya as a reminder that violence simply breeds more violence. I DO, however, stand in solidarity with those who have hope for a more peaceful future in Libya.
2) I don’t care what our politicians and media are feeding...

they use hip hop, WE ARE HIP HOP
– my first ‘hip hop reflection’ of the day.
i’ve been thinking about the exploitation, appropriation and re-appropriation, packaging and consumption of hip hop. but as krs-one said, hip hop is not just music, it’s a lifestyle.
Others may ‘use’ hip hop but we ARE...
